First Doctors visit

Yesterday we had our first doctors visit, spending 2 1/2 hours there. We showed up early knowing there would be paperwork, but we did not realize that there would be about 1 1/2 hours of it. Good news is we adore our doctor! This visit was more a get to know each other visit which was comforting to me. We went through the family history, diet, and the type of vitamns and supplements I should consider, etc. She did confirm an initial due date of December 19th! Since I am 10 weeks along we attempted to listen to the heart beat, sadly baby Cartwright was just too shy to come out and play. Our Dr. did reassure us this was not a bad thing and that we will hear it next month when we come in. After visiting with the doctor, I had to provide blood samples for testing, and then we were finally done. We go back four weeks from today or June 24th. With everything being on track I am definitely more excited now.

Because my husband told me to

Heath keeps telling me to blog, but it has been so long that it has been hard for me to find a topic to talk about. So bare with me as I attempt to get back into blog writing.

I am now 9 weeks along and finally have noticed the nausea subsiding! It may be because I noticed I only became nauseous when my blood sugar dropped, so I've been eating smaller meals with healthy snacks in between. With nausea stepping aside fatigued seems to be taking its place. Although it may be due to or assisted by the fact I have been picking up more shifts at work and because of my summer class can only work at night. One more sign that is cropping up is my ever growing belly, don't worry once we purchase a camera we'll start posting pictures. Most people may say that they can't tell but I sure can my poor belly is no longer as flat as it use to be :(

Other news my health card has finally arrived so I made my first doctors appointment. We decided on a family practitioner as we feel that (as long as we like the doctor) we wouldn't have to find a doctor for our baby after he/she is born. The appointment is Wednesday afternoon and we'll probably blog after so as to keep everyone up-to-date.

That's all I have right now! Love you all!

What's in a name?

We are about 8 weeks along in the pregnancy. Slowly, we are trying to get our lives ready for the beautiful gift form God headed our way. Lately we've been trying to decide on names for either gender. I think we've focused on to a name for a little girl, but haven't even found names for a boy that we like. There is so much pressure in this one decision. This child has to live with whatever name we pick out for the rest of his or her life. My parents gave me a fairly unique name and I want to try and do likewise for this unique individual about to enter the world. I think it's funny that for years of tried to come up with a name for my car; being so indecisive never was able to find one that like, now attempting to find a name within a couple months for a human being.

With each passing day I am getting more and more excited to be a father. Though it doesn't help that everywhere I look are pregnant women and babies, especially at work. I can't decide if I want a boy or a girl. I guess it doesn't matter because there's no choice, but I do know that I will love him or her unconditionally.

A shut eye or two

It has been awhile since I've blogged.

It seems all I do is work and sleep. After being let go from the School of Music after 5 years, I have found myself at Target. Working at 4am took some getting used to and has had an affect on our marriage. Since I work so early on shifts that can range from 4 hours to 9 or 10 and my wife works at night, we have few times to share with each other making those moments all the more special. Though sometimes after a long day of work my body just wants to sleep which then causes me to fight my body to stay awake.

In order to help put a twist of "normalcy" on my life I've been applying for any job I can find that's full-time employment. I've had 3 interviews now, as of today. The first one I was the third choice at a job working in the graduate school at KU. The next one I had was with the psychology department and I was their second choice. Today I had an interview at the Edwards campus in Overland Park and based on the pattern, I should be getting an offer on this one.

Well, as I have to work in the morning I need to head to bed. Hopefully writing one of these again will help empty my head.
